This Cathedral wedding in Helena, MT combined the perfect amount of tradition and unconventional. A traditional Catholic church wedding followed by a giant reception in their parent's backyard, Janelle and Jonny's day was the best of both worlds.

Janelle and Jonny’s Cathedral wedding in Helena, MT was both, and it made for a perfect combination of traditional and personal.

The Cathedral is a STUNNING venue for a wedding, with its endless stained glass and hundred plus years of history. It could arguably be considered the pinnacle Catholic ceremony location in the state, and rich in tradition when it comes to the wedding ceremony. Hearing verse and vow echo around the pillars definitely adds reverence and commitment to it all.

Once it’s time for the reception, however, her parent’s backyard became the perfect setting to celebrate in the hot August evening. Dad refurbished the basketball court that saw many a game of horse growing up into a dance floor, complete with live band. The shop became grand central station for everything food and drink, and the couple even got to spend their first night together in a glamping tent in the neighboring fields.

My favorite part of weddings is being invited into the couples world, and being shown what they value by the things that they include in one of their biggest days. This day, tradition mixed with personality, church mixed with home, was a perfect balance to send them off to a life together.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match a little; the results can be inspiring.
